Who is this training for?

This training is for those who have at least 1 year previous aerial fabric experience and have a strong desire to teach Aerial Fabric safely and effectively. This is a “how to teach” training, not a “how to do” training. You must be able to competently demonstrate the skills in your application video to be accepted in to the training.

Cathy Gauch first witnessed a flying aerial fabric act at Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere in 1993, she was ecstatic and knew that was what she wanted to do. After finding the correct type of fabric to use, and consulting with a professional rigger to determine a safe way to rig it up, she set upon figuring out what she could do on a piece of cloth hanging from the ceiling. With no coach, books or online videos on the subject at that time, she spent 2 years playing and dancing with the fabric, mostly on the ground before figuring out even a simple footlock. Now, when she teaches, beginners learn a footlock in their first 10 minutes of their first class! She has now been teaching aerial fabric for over 24 years, to our knowledge, longer than any other US Coach.

She has developed and coached aerial arts programs at the Aspen Recreation Department, Aspen & Carbondale Community Schools, Colorado Academy, numerous Waldorf schools, and the Boulder Circus Center. Her students have gone on to perform in Cirque du Soleil, Circus Smirkus,  Cirque Le Masque, the Lucent Dossier Experience, Quixotic Fusion, Frequent Flyers Productions, Inc., MOTH Poetic Circus, countless prestigious corporate events around the world and attend Ecole Nationale de Cirque.

Cathy’s Performing credits include, SandCastle Entertainment in Guam, Bella Luna Circus with Borrillo Entertainment, the International Aerial Dance Festival, Cirque Le Masque, Cherry Creek Arts Festival, ABC Family Channel ‘s “Switched,” Dallas Opera, WB2 Denver, Crystal Charity Ball, Dallas Petroleum Club, Frequent Flyers Productions, World Cup Skiing Opening Ceremonies, International Design Conference, Glenwood Springs Dance Festival and the highly successful co-collaborative show AIReS Tango. She currently directs an aerial arts program at the Boulder Circus Center and is a recipient of the Aspen Dance Connections’ Artist Excellence Award, Westword magazines’ Best of Denver and a 2005 recipient of the prestigious Neodata Endowment in Dance.

Along with the Aircat Aerial Yoga team, she has created the highly successful Aircat Aerial Yoga teacher training program with teacher trainees that attend from all over the world!

Her signature aerial fabric act can be seen at http://youtu.be/BSbEaQ-eukQ
